Vaucluse
Lavender - Dentelles de Montmirail - Mont Ventoux

For a lot of people the colour, the texture and the scent of a lavender field stands for the essence of the Provence. In the Vaucluse you can find many lavender fields around Sault, Apt and Gordes and also at the foot of the Mont Ventoux.

The Dentelles de Montmirail are a small chain of mountains (8 km) in the Vaucluse located just south of the village of Vaison-la-Romaine, west of the Mont Ventoux and east of the village of Gigondas. The foot of the Dentelles is surrounded by vineyards of the Rhône Valley. Their name dentelles, the french word for lace, refers to their shape formed by erosion, while Montmirail is derived from the Latin Mons mirabilis meaning admirable mountain.

The Mont Ventoux is a mountain in the Provence region 20 km northeast of Carpentras. This "Giant of the Provence" has gained fame through its inclusion in the Tour de France cycling race. It can get very windy at the summit, especially with the mistral.
